Shiva Ratri is devoted to Shiva, one of the three main Gods in Hinduism. Shiva is regarded as the destroyer of the evils.
On this day, the leaves of wooden apple also called ‘belpatra’ are offered to Shiva linga. Other activities include all-day fasting and an all-night-vigil (jagaram).
Devotees chant the sacred mantra of Shiva "Om Namah Shivaya". Penances are performed in order to gain boons in the practice of Yoga and meditation, in order to reach life's highest good steadily and swiftly. On this day, the planetary positions in the Northern hemisphere act as potent catalysts to help a person raise his or her spiritual energy more easily. The benefits of powerful ancient Sanskrit mantras such as Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra increase greatly on this night.

Day 1Kathmandu arrival (1,345 metres or 4,413 feet)Mount Fishtail receives you upon your arrival, from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. After 20 minutes drive (5.9 km), we arrive at hotel in Thamel, a hub for visitors in Nepal. Thamel provides accommodation and shopping centres, keeping in mind, the needs of visitors and guests. After taking rest for a while, we organise a welcome dinner (Traditional Nepali cuisine) and brief a tour programmes.
Day 2Fullday celebration of Mahashivaratri at Pashupatinath Temple.
Day 3Departure to PokharaAfter breakfast, we drive from Kathmnad to Pokhara. It takes about 7 hours. We check in hotel, take rest for an hour. We take a walk to Phewa Lake and do boating for an hour. It’s time to view the beautiful panorama of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 4Morning visit to Sarangkot to view sunrise and Mountain View (Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range) and half day sight-seeing in Pokhara (Mahendra cave, Davi’s fall, one hour boating in Fewa Lake)View Early in the morning, we go to Sarangkot. Here, we enjoy Sunrise view as well as mountain ranges over 8,000 metres; Dhaulagiri and Annapurna including Manaslu Mountain. Sarangkot locates at a point from where the mountains are viewed in the North and the city of Pokhara in the south. The interested one may join paragliding; flying from Sarangkot to Pame (opposite bank of Fewa Lake). We enjoy sightseeing in Pokhara and visit Mahendra cave, Davis Fall and Bindavasini temple. We take supper at the end of the day before overnight stay.
Day 5Departure to KathmanduWe fly to Kathmandu in the afternoon which takes about 40 minutes. The flight gives an opportunity for closer observation of the mountains. The day is for taking rest and exploring about nearby places. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Day 6Half day sight-seeing around Kathmandu valley. Overnight stay in Nagarkot.After breakfast, we go to Patan Durbar square (UNESCO World Heritage Sites), once one of the principalities among three kingdoms in the valley during the period of Malla dynasty. The square is famous for its fine arts in architectural designs and handicraft carvings. After exploring around Patan
We take time to enjoy sunset and sunrise view of the Himalayas including Manaslu range, Ganesh himal range, Langtang range, Jugal range, Rolwaling range, Mahalangur range (Everest range) and Numbur range with views of the Kathmandu valley over the ridge and Shivapuri National Park.
Day 7Sunrise view in the morning and exploring Bhaktapur and overnight stay.On this day, we drive to the oldest temple, Changunarayan. It takes three hours to reach the temple walking through villages for three and half hours. The historic temple of Changunarayan is in the eastern end of the Kathmandu valley. The 4th century’s double roofed temple which was rebuilt in 1706, dates back to the Lichchhavi dynasty. Next, place to hang out is Bhaktapur Durbar Square, (UNESCO World Heritage Sites) the smallest and the famous principality among three valley kingdoms (Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan). Time to explore and experience the Newari tradition and lifestyle, concluding with an overnight stay there in Bhaktapur.
Day 8Final departureMount Fishtail Adventure arranges the farewell breakfast and your transportation to the airport three hours prior to the scheduled flight time.
